Sunday is the day to extend the engagement with the cozy bed and top of it, if it is winter, the detachment becomes a herculean task in the morning. It is the aromatic coffee that tantalize and tests the tenacity of the comfort zone…we get trapped in the conflict between the coffee and comfort.
I was very much cut in this trap. This amplifies with the distancing from nature and life in city is rapidly moving away from nature…development has become directly proportional to the depletion of nature.
Today’s life in city has become a routine and we get confined to the four walls of our house on weekends or to the office on the weekdays. We are so much lost in the works that playing has become a rarity, as the space in the city is getting lost to the concrete jungle.
The moment we get onto the streets, it is dominated by the transportation system, and the cacophony of the vehicles deafen us. The playgrounds are getting converted into grounds for construction and we are busy building the towers for us to reach out to the elusive sky, the skyscrapers are standing tall in such open space…going nowhere. The vacant streets and the open space are fast losing its battle to the explosive construction and to the expanding transportation.
It is time to reclaim the streets and the space for us to play and enjoy our time when we have time and we all have time on Sunday to spend for enjoying and playing. There is an aspiration for liberty, we all want to come out with families and friends and catch up on designated place and defined space, and then why not the streets which are generally very less occupied on Sunday and utilize the space in streets for playing, dancing, cycling and singing…giving a break to the automobiles and giving an auto start to our legs to take off on an off day.
The new hi-tech city of Cyberabad next to Hyderabad is beautifully designed, the classical combination of technology & tradition…so designed that enough space is rightly left for the digital citizens to conceptualize such creative activities and get physically engaged to enjoy and entertain the all-encompassing gathering. The space was vibrant and was spread with Zumba dancing to Horse riding to Kite flying to Cycling to Skating…people from all age and from all strata of the society were mingling and mixing without any hassles, and without any conventional inhibitions.
It was a mosaic of freedom on street and the magic of sharing the free space was defining the otherwise busy streets with zooming vehicles…
With the increasing decibel of music and the gyrations of ever-increasing size of waist, it was high time to lose some more calories. The momentum started taking shape with the enthusiastic audience…the rhythm was electrically defining. With the end of first song was the beginning of the excitement of the swelled gathering, it went on with the second, the third and on and on, one set of crowd replaced the second, there was no dearth of vigor…it was burgeoning with each new song and with each new group grooving to the tunes of the DJ.
The streets which is otherwise full of vehicles on any other day was occupied with people walking, cycling and riding horses to skating…no vehicles was allowed and though these vehicles on the other side of the road was envious and desperately looking to reclaim their space, but it was strictly for the people without vehicles…
The ball rolling the streets without the danger of getting rolled over by the vehicles, the kids running helter-skelter without the fear being hit by the running bikes or cars, the horses majestically walking without the distraction of mechanical honking of the vehicles, the young playing without the restriction of the traffic police, the photographers were maneuvering themselves and moving around leisurely to capture the best scene and the perfect moment that was unfolding without predictability and without any defined pattern.
It was wonderful to witness the playful atmosphere where everybody was lost in their own-world but at the same was there to make their presence felt as part of the wonderful gathering. The atmosphere was completely charged up and the energy was in full throttle emanating from all corners and from every individual…the old were child like and the young were kite like flying high, literally nobody was on ground.
Sunday on the streets…the motto to reclaim our streets and give the vehicles a break…
